This template follow’s Ramsey’s philosophy of zero-based budgeting. This monthly budget sheet lets you plan every dollar in three separate sections – income, savings, and expenses, and then provides a nice graphical summary. It truly is a simple template – just list your income and your expenses, and it will calculate the difference. In fact, I wasn’t even sure that it was an Excel template until I downloaded it. I love how this template doesn’t look like an Excel spreadsheet. The formulas are straightforward, it’s easy to edit, and it’s nicely formatted to print. This budget has such a clean and refreshing layout. I’d be remiss to not include a Microsoft template on this list. Please note however, that you will have enter your email address to get this download.
It has plenty of space for multiple income sources, and a whole bunch of expenses listed. This is a great template for those who want to budget by week. It also has a clean summary sheet with several graphs.
This template is split up into quarters, so you can focus on three months at a time. The Family Budget Planner is a nicely laid out, comprehensive budget tool. Then, enter your expenses into a log to see how much you ended up saving. To start, enter your income, and decide how you want to split up your savings. I love the look and the concept of this simple budget worksheet.

I should mention, however, that special fonts are used in this template, so your download may not look exactly like the picture unless you have all of the fonts installed. Just enter your budget and actual numbers, and see what the difference is. This budget is just the kind of template that people love to use – it’s easy and pretty. Then check the summary sheet to see where your money went and how much you saved. Just enter your categories and log your expenses. It’s a straightforward, single-month budget, that’s incredibly user-friendly and simple to understand. Of course this template is on the list but it’s super popular for good reason. Some may be compatible with other spreadsheet apps like Google Sheets, but I can’t say for sure. These are all compatible with Microsoft Excel. I’ve narrowed down some of my favorite free budget spreadsheets from around web for you here.
It also helps if they look good, since you’ll probably be spending several hours in it each month. It shouldn’t feel like “work” to use them, otherwise you’ll just stop using them. There are a ton of free Excel budget spreadsheets out there, but how do you which one to try? The best ones are those that are easy to use and intuitive.
